This trip was taken before the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene in September of 2024. We stayed at the Cabins of Willow Winds (link) which some might consider dated but we like places where we can have plenty of room that are pet friendly. It’s like staying in the woods within the city limits. If your tastes align more to places like the Biltmore then this isn’t the place for you. Nothing wrong with the Biltmore but only service animals are allowed to stay there. Our dog goes everywhere with us so most nights we eat in or get take out. We could bring him to an outdoor restaurant but when it comes to meals eaten in the presence of a Westie what’s his food is his and what’s yours and everyone in your vicinity is negotiable. He operates on the assumption that what’s on your plate is probably better than what’s on his. The non-Civil War stops were to wineries that were along the path. It’s not very hard to find pet friendly wineries.
