Civil War Day Trips from Atlantic Beach, NC

Image from crystalcoast.com

For this trip we stayed at Atlantic Beach in an Airbnb one block from the ocean. The sites in Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, and Beaufort were only about 15 minutes away. New Bern was a little less than a 60 minute drive and Kinston a little less than 90 minutes. The highlights of the sites I visited below not in any particular order were Fort Macon, the New Bern Battlefield site, the CSS Neuse Museum, and Stop #10 on the Wyse Fork Battlefield Driving tour. I was able to visit several sites relevant to both the First and Second Battle of Kinston (Wyse Fork) with the help of Dennis Harper and Skip Riddle. Both do great work with the Save Wyse Fork Battlefield Commission (link).
