Woolsey Hall, the largest auditorium on the Yale campus seats about 2,650 people and serves as the main performance venue for the Yale Symphony Orchestra. It is named after Theodore Dwight Woolsey the University’s president from 1846-1871.
You enter the hall through the Memorial Rotunda and there you will find large marble slabs with the names of all Yale students and graduates that were killed in our country’s wars. The slabs are arranged by war, including their name, military information and Yale affiliation, and date and place of death. The Civil War tablet includes the names of 113 killed defending the Union and 54 killed serving the Confederacy.
