Civil War Charleston- Chapter 10- Ashley River Plantations- The Citadel (Stop 2)

The Citadel and its Museum- 171 Moultrie Street. Founded in 1842 cadets from the Citadel fired on the Star of the West from Morris Island as the ship attempted to resupply Fort Sumter on January 9, 1861. The incident did not trigger the start of the war. The Cadets also participated in Civil War battles such as the Battle of Tulifinny Crossroads. The school relocated to its present location in 1922.

The Dantel Library

There is a small museum on the third floor with a small number of Civil War exhibits.

In the lobby of the library on the first floor to the right after entering there are a series of paintings on the walls.
