Section 53 contains the graves of 116 Confederate soldiers

The remains of 19 African American soldiers from the 55th MA Volunteer Infantry found on Folly Island in May 1987 were reinterred here on May 29, 1989. The men lost their lives during the winter encampment of November 1863-February 1864.

Mercy Cemetery an historic Black Cemetery- 32.4397285, -80.6826630. The cemetery contains graves of some members of the 3rd US Colored Troops, formerly the 1st SC Infantry, and former slaves.
