The Seven Lighthouses of the North Carolina Atlantic Coast

There is something inherently majestic about a lighthouse. Rising above the sand and shining a beacon of light out to sea to guide ships safely into shore. There are seven beautiful ones along the coast of North Carolina and three of them were built before the Civil War at Cape Lookout, on Ocracoke Island, and on Bald Head Island. All three require a ferry ride from Harkers Island, Hatteras, and Southport, respectively. The four post-war lighthouses are on the mainland.
