Medal of Honor Comic- William Carney

The AUSA (Association of the United States Army) publishes an online comic about Medal of Honor recipients. Recently they published one about William Carney. The comic can be viewed at this link. It was written by Chuck Dixon and illustrated by Wayne Vansant (credits below). I was able to obtain the original art pages to the issue, shown below. The pages below are the pencils and inks to the comic. The pages are then colorized on a computer and the letters added (the story). If you want to read the story from the final version on the colorized pages it can be found at the link above.

Credits

Here is the description of the issue from the website- William Carney was a member of the 54thMassachusetts Volunteer Infantry, the Civil War unit made famous in the movie Glory. He earned the Medal of Honor for his actions during their charge on Fort Wagner. When the unit’s color guard was shot, Carney grabbed the American flag and crawled to the parapet under heavy fire to urge the troops forward. His story was immortalized in the patriotic song “Boys the Old Flag Never Touched the Ground.”
