Union Hospital #7- The Edgar Fripp House is commonly known as “Tidalholm” because the Beaufort River practically surrounds it. Located at 1 Laurens Street. During the Civil War the house served as U.S. Hospital #7, which provided care for officers. Tidalholm marker- 32.4349722, -80.6645278

Union Hospital #10- 705 Washington St Old Barnwell House, Elizabeth Gough House. This was the first General Hospital for Black soldiers in Beaufort and was established on April 12, 1863, under the charge of Dr. Milton Hawks. Both Milton and his wife Esther, who also worked here, were abolitionists and welcomed the opportunity. The Elizabeth Barnwell Gough House was sanctioned as Hospital #10. Some of the most celebrated African American troops including the 1st and 2nd South Carolina (Susie King Taylor’s regiment) and the 54th Massachusetts were treated here. It is believed that Susie King Taylor, Clara Barton, Charlotte Forten and Harriet Tubman volunteered here.
