Fort Sherman, named after Brigadier General Thomas W. Sherman, consists of two miles of earthworks enclosing a 14-acre area. It formed part of a defensive line 5 miles across the north end of Hilton Head Island. The fort is within the gated Port Royal Plantation community. I accessed it via a ticketed tour conducted by the Coastal Discovery Museum (link). It is offered only during their winter program schedule. The fort is well preserved. A LiDAR image of the fort is shown below. This is followed by pictures from each of the lettered spots. There is a parking lot in front of the entry to the fort labeled (C). I first walked back down Sherman Drive to take pictures of the outer wall at (A) and (B), then returned to (C) and entered the fort. There is a paved circular path that I walked around in the interior of the fort.

Trenches extend off from the fort across the island
