This tour includes the Lee’s Headquarters Stop, and the Conner House Site Stop in the future I will add two trails which can be accessed from these stops the Tobacco Prizery Nature Train and the Conner-Sweeney Cabin Trail.
General Lee made his final headquarters here. On the evening of April 8, 1865, Lee held his final council of war here and decided to make one last attempt to break out before surrendering. He issued General Order No. 9 from this location to bid farewell to his men.
The field hospital is across the street from the sign, shown in the picture below at the arrow.

The Conner House parking lot and the Conner-Sweeney Cabin Trail are across the street on Horseshoe Road. The Conner’s home served as a field hospital for the Army of Northern Virginia following the April 8th and 9th battles of Appomattox Station and Appomattox Court House.
