The John L. Nau III Center for Civil War History at the University of Virginia has launched their new history project “Letters from Home” online. Per the announcement “The website contains searchable transcriptions of 13,500 letters and diaries from the Civil War era as well as 4,200 original biographies and a series of interactive maps. Together, this material captures the stories of the “ordinary” people–Union and Confederate, soldiers and civilians, men and women–who experienced America’s deadliest conflict.”
